Catch up with what happened at this weeks East Zorra-Tavistock Council Meeting with a quick read of the meeting highlights below. 

During the Meeting

  • Council received correspondence from the Oxford County Pride Committee requesting a flag raising; and from Brian Middleton requesting Council ban non-government flags on government buildings. Council approved a motion directing staff to research and develop a policy for flags on Township properties, including a potential community flag pole, and come back with a report by the September 6, 2023 Regular Meeting of Council. 
  • Pam Antonio and Frank Gross from Oxford County presented to Council regarding the upcoming transition of the Blue Box Program to Extended Producer Responsibility. Oxford County's planned transition date is December 31, 2025. 
  • Council adopted the new Municipal Alcohol Policy, with an effective date of September 1, 2023.
  • Council approved a new one (1) year agreement with Hickson Sports and Recreation Inc. regarding shared management facilities with the Township, for Hickson Park and associated facilities. 
  • The Request for Proposal for the Tavistock Spray Pad has been issued and a pre-bid site meeting was held with interested bidders.

2023 Operating and Capital Budget

Council adjourned to a public meeting for consideration of the proposed 2023 Operating and Capital Budget. Chief Administrative Officer/Treasurer, Karen DePrest highlighted the proposed 2023 Budget. Members of Council discussed items related to the 2023 Operating and Capital Budget. No members of the public present elected to speak at the public meeting. The Final Budget will be brought back for final approval at the June 7, 2023 Regular Meeting of Council. 

Planning Matters

Sitting as the Committee of Adjustment and then in public meeting, Council approved the minor variance application below:

  • Application A-4-2023. 636584 14th Line, Tavistock. Relief from Section 5.1, Table 5.1.1.3 – Regulations for Accessory Uses, to increase the maximum height of a building accessory to a residential use from 5.5 m (18 ft) to 6.1 m (20 ft).

The next regularly scheduled East Zorra-Tavistock Council Meeting is set for Wednesday June 7, 2023 at 9:00am.
